Hi There! My name is Derek Bye and I am a freelance web designer and web programmer with over 15 years experience in the business. I am fluent in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, MySQL, Ajax, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
Programming since 1996, I have worked with clients and built successful websites for small businesses, bands, and even social network projects.
If you want to give yourself a presence on the internet I can build your site from the ground up, all to your specifications and needs. Clean sites, grungy sites, sites you can edit anytime from anywhere - no coding experience needed. I can build custom control panels so you can update your site on the go from any computer just by filling out a form field.
It doesn't stop there. If you are thinking about mobile sites compatible on iPhones, iPods, Android, BlackBerry, Palm, and the new Windows 7 phone, I can do it all.
If you want a quote, have a question, want your first site, or you want to redesign your current site, feel free to send me a message.

Hakifa (launch site)
This website was designed for an online store opening up.
This client wanted a store created and multiple pages explaining the product and uses. A custom shopping cart was programmed using cookies to store orders, and integrated in with PayPal for fast checkout. |

Personal Project (launch site)
This is my own project I have been designing over the past year. I wanted to make a very dynamic site, looked at Facebook and thought, "I could do that", so I set out to recreate features on Facebook. Most of the scripts I develop here I am able to use on clients' pages, and DerekNet is sort of a playground for myself to test my own abilities. Here is a list of features:
- Personal Profiles: Users can update their status, comment on friends' walls, "Like" posts
- Messaging & Notifications: Users can send private messages to each other, and they will also be notified when other users comment on their wall, status, photos, or "Like" and item on their wall
- Photo Uploading: Users can upload high resolution photos that are resized and thumbanils are made. New galleries can be made, and photos can be arranged by dragging and dropping them.
- Video Uploading: Users can upload video, add captions, and watch the video by streaming through the site
- Friends List: Friends can be added, and the friends' profile updates will show up in your news feed

Personal Project - Mobile (launch site)
This is the mobile version of my own personal project. It is compatible using the top smart phones available, iPhone, iPod, BlackBerry, Android OS, Palm, and Windows 7 Phones.
Almost all of the features on the full site are also in the mobile version.
Here is a list of features:
- News: Read all your freinds' recent wall posts, and see their photos
- Profiles: Update your status, comment on friends' walls, "Like" posts
- Messaging & Notifications: Send and receive private messages, read notifications, and click on a notification to load that wall post
- Photo Uploading: Users can upload high resolution photos right from their phone. Photos are pre-sized using Flash before upload, so a 5 megapixel photo is still uploaded at 100% quality, but only 200Kb is sent through your phone, to save on your data plan.
- Friends: Approve and deny friends from your mobile device

Mountain Citadel (launch site)
Mountain Citadel wanted a very simple website that can be accessed and navigated easily by users of all ages. They also requested they be able to update the website whenever they want from any computer.
Through a mixture of HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, PHP, and MySQL databases I was able to fulfill their requests and design a website that fit their requirements. The majority of the content on their website can be updated by filling out forms through a custom-made control panel. The church was very impressed that all content is automatically formatted to suit the site, with no coding knowledge needed.
The biggest task was the ability to upload photos. To accomplish this I included a photo upload system that resizes photos and creates thumbnails upon upload. The user uploading the photos is able to create a new photo album, then upload new photos to this new album. Once the photos have been uploaded the user is taken to a page to add captions. |
